GUEST SPEAKER:

Maureen McLaughlin MS, RN ACNS-BC CPAN CAPA

Maureen has over 30 years of perianesthesia nursing experience and is considered a perianesthesia nurse expert. Maureen began her perianesthesia nursing career as a staff nurse in a high acuity PACU in an academic medical center. Since that period, she has held a variety of clinical leadership roles including PACU Clinical Educator, Advanced Practice Nurse for the Department of Anesthesia, Clinical Nurse Specialist of Procedural Sedation, Critical Care Clinical Educator and now her current role as Quality Nurse, Department of Anesthesia. Maureen’s educational background is from Boston College, including a baccalaureate degree and a Master’s Degree. She is board certified as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Health. She possesses dual certification as a CAPA and CPAN. Maureen is a frequent lecturer locally, nationally and internationally covering topics that include medication safety, standards of care, care of the critical care patient in the PACU and post anesthesia complications. She echoes the vision statement from the American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification, Inc.

“Recognizing and respecting the unequaled excellence is the mark of the CPAN and CAPA credential, perianesthesia nurses will seek it, managers will require it, employers will support it and the public will demand it.”
