Position Description

Reporting to the Director of Quality/Risk, the RN Quality Improvement Coordinator plays an essential role in managing the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement analytics and process improvement throughout the York Hospital organization. This position will provide the leadership necessary to achieve national best practice performance levels in quality while providing guidance in the implementation and monitoring of evidence-based processes and quality improvement methodologies.

About the Role

The RN Quality Improvement Coordinator assists in achieving compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards; assists with implementation of a comprehensive Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Plan in accordance with, but not limited to Federal and State regulations, CMS, and Maine DHHS. This position will support the Medical Staff peer review process and the medical staff office in the preparation of provider quality files for the recredentialing process. Working within the framework of a high reliability organization, the RN Quality Improvement Coordinator will exemplify the principles of a Just Culture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement analytics and process improvement.
  • Provide leadership to achieve national best practice performance levels in quality.
  • Guide the implementation and monitoring of evidence-based processes and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Assist in achieving compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
  • Support the Medical Staff peer review process and preparation of provider quality files for recredentialing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with 5 years of clinical experience and at least one recent year of experience in healthcare quality improvement, risk, or patient safety.
  • Current Maine or Compact State RN licensure required.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of and experience with various QI methodologies such as: Lean, IHI Model for Improvement, PDSA, TEAMSTEPPS, Clinical Microsystems, etc.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations in a health care setting.
  • Understanding of patient safety issues, quality improvement, project management, data analysis, reporting, and quality improvement skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional analytical skills necessary for preparing reports, devising solutions, and implementing changes in a health care setting.
  • Strong level of confidentiality due to the sensitivity of materials and information handled.
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation requirements with the ability to interpret and synthesize complex clinical concepts and apply knowledge of medical staff, including clinical practice guidelines and policies in the concurrent or retrospective review of patient medical records.

Preferred Skills

  • MS in Nursing, MPH, MBA or similar advanced healthcare-related degree preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Professional In Patient Safety (CPPS), or similar certification preferred.
