Presidents Address

January brings cold and inclement weather here in Maine. Some individuals brace themselves for the lower temps and shorter days and stay bundled up inside their homes with a hot beverage and a book. While other people venture outside and take advantage of all that winter has to offer like skiing or snowshoeing. Whatever your predilection, know that while you work and play, MESPAN’s Board of Directors has set its sights on the continued growth of this organization. Starting this month, MESPAN will convene at its January Board of Director meeting to outline where and how this organization will remain vital, attract more members, and continue to bring quality perianesthesia-focused nursing education to you. But until we are ready to reveal those plans, here is a look back at what we accomplished in the span of the past 12 months of 2018:

We launched a new MESPAN website (www.mespan.org). This website is easy to navigate and allows us to advertise our conferences and you to registration and pay online. Hospitals can arrange for group registration.
MESPAN was recognized by ASPAN for 35 Years as a Chartered Component; we celebrated with you, our members, by way of drastically reducing conference fees.
MESPAN was recognized by ABPANC with a Shining Star Award for our continued support for Perianesthesia Nurse Certification.
MESPAN hosted a Perianesthesia Certification Review Class at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick; this was well attended and received positive feedback.
MESPAN’s membership is growing!
MESPAN’s Board of Directors gained a Governmental Affairs Representative who had the opportunity to attend Nurses in Washington Institute (NIWI).
MESPAN added Evidence Based Practice and Research Posters to our 2018 Fall Conference.

In 2019 we hope to build upon this momentum and success. If you are interested in joining us, please reach out to me or any board member, you can send an email through MESPAN’s website. We are looking for a couple of ambitious, energetic perianesthesia nurses who want to contribute to this amazing team.
P.S. Our spring conference brochure is ready and posted on MESPAN’s website. Sign up today!

Sincerely,
